A new level of happiness
The feeling of happiness when I found Michael's specs and when Anupam rescued the slipper cannot be put simply in words. It's a totally different kind of gladness from the kind where you find a $50 dollar note on the ground. This I think is closest to the feeling of those firefighters when they managed to rescue people. Even though the specs and the slippers are small items, the thought of losing them forever and getting them back in the nick of time gave me the feeling that we have rescued something.
Thoughts on a small wooden boat
For this trip we were made to wear those life jackets. It must be a reaction to the sinking of the Tioman ferry boat. The trip seems good so far. Boat left Tanjong Leman well ahead of schedule. Weather looks good. Nobody looks unhappy. It should be a fun trip. I took a head count of the people my boat and realised that only Doris, Colin, Valerie, Geok Lian & me are Singaporeans. We have fallen below 50% in numbers. May not be a bad thing since those that like to complain are also Singaporeans anyway.

Ling's Birthday Present from Suhyi
Shopping w Ling today
I went shopping w Ling today as it was a birthday. I am so proud of myself as I didn't even utter a complain this time round. Surprising, by telling myself to enjoy the shopping, I actually did enjoy it a little. It came from seeing Ling enjoy her shopping. I guess this is the joy from seeing someone else's joy. It was not as draggy as expected and this time we bought something.
Free Saturday
This is my free-iest Saturday in many weeks. The burden of having lots of outstanding work have been lifted. It's also Ling's birthday today. She doesn't want to go Halloween. So we'll go Takashimaya for shopping instead. But the day is also somewhat dampened by Ling's 3.5-hour tuition in the afternoon.

Facebook
Seriously looked @ Facebook for the first time today. I think what is so fantastic about Facebook is that you cannot sign up. You have to be invited. And not any Tom, Dick & Harry can invite you. Your email must be in HIS personal phonebook @ those major email websites. Facebook does the rest. So you can be assured that most of the profiles are of genuine people. You also can't suka suka join any Groups that are affiliated to any organisation. Someone must give an approval before you can join. Was disappointed that a search for Kelisa, Great Eastern & ADRC didn't yield anything.

Ling's Birthday Cake
Slightly higher consumption
Didn't expect the Kelisa to rack up higher consumption this time round. It did 14.05 km/ℓ compared to 14.9 km/ℓ previously. I hope it hasn't got anything to do with the 1,000 km servicing. Maybe it's because on the previous tank, I drove to the airport and to Punggol, racking up the km/ℓ. 2I took an extra 3 days to do the 502 km compared to the previous round. Did the petrol evaporate or something like that?
Making my calendar public
Finally put the moolah on where my mouth is and printed out my schedule on paper. It'll be nice if everyone @ home can see my calendar. Am already thinking of where to place it. Can be our room door, the notice board.
Horrible Nasi Padang
Overpriced. Overrated. Quantity also compromised. The Tau Hoo was so hard that I didn't even finish it. The free flow of Orange Juice is good. But @ $2 per person, I can ALSO provide free flow to the whole world and make $$$ for myself. The place is hot too. My first and last time there.
New driving method - How to save petrol
Quite glad to find another manual Kelisa driver in Vincent Tay. He told me about how he managed to do 15-16 km/ℓ on his Kelisa. I was quite surprised and asked further how he did it coz I could only do 14 km/ℓ on mine. He said he lets the car free wheel on the expressways most of the time. This is something I never thought of but it's worth a try. I am already doing the 'free wheeling @ traffic light' thing.

Bitch fight via SMS
Played around w Clickatell's SMS API. Am quite surprised that we can do so much things with an SMS. I only found out today that we can send SMS that are spoofed. Was telling Chris and Kristine over lunch how I could start a bitch fight between the 2 of them just by using the API.

Somebody woke up early
Ling woke up @ 5 + and followed me in the Kelisa. It's only the second time where she did that. I did my usual jog while she waited for me @ Hong Lim. She then followed me to Fitness First and munched on her Curry Puff as I went to bathe. I think the new Fitness First chairs are very comfortable and she also agreed. Life is slower paced when Ling is around. Which is not a bad thing. I actually enjoyed sitting outside Fitness First with her watching life pass by.

Clickatell's SMTP API
Played around with Clickatell's SMTP API. I think Junbin needs to pay for the credits before we can use it. It kept sending generic texts to the SMS recipients regardless of what text did I set.

Brazillian Grand Prix
Brazillian Grand Prix kept me on the edge for almost whole of the race. There was drama everywhere. @ the first turn, Massa delibrately slowed down so that Raikkonen could overtake Hamilton. Later Alonso almost forced Hamilton off the road and Hamilton ended up @ 7th place. Later on, there were 2 more crashes involving other cars. Hamilton's gearbox suddenly stopped working and he dropped to 17th place. But he did very well to overtake up to at least 9th place. I'm watching and typing this @ the same time.

Great Eastern Women's 10k run
Went down for the Great Eastern's Women's 10k run. There were like 5,000 females + a few guys. I then realised that Singapore is an ageing country. Most of the participants are either the same age as me or older. But nevertheless, the Aunties are not old in spirit as a lot are at least sporting enough to run the 10 km route. Caught site of a few African runners warming up. I guess they'll be among the top 10 at least. When I arrived @ the Great Eastern booth @ 7 am, I wasn't even sure of what I was supposed to do. Stephen was late because he had trouble locating Jamie's block and Andy himself took some time to come down. Nicholas was the next to arrive. As usual, where there's women, there's Nicholas. With 5,000 women, you can bet your last dollar that he'll be there. My job was to give out Ice Creams to the ladies who have finished. That means that I can go for breakfast (which I did w Andy & Stephen) and come back later. When we came back. The Great Eastern Booth resembled a UN Relief Centre when women, both old and young, fat and thin thronged our booth for the free Ice Cream. I took out a box of Ice Cream to distribute. With women, even if it's free, they'll ask for the flavour that they want and take from the bottom so that it'll be colder. I told the rest that 女人很难刺候. There was free booze from Brewerkz too. So I took a couple of beers for myself. Jasmine didn't drink but took 2 beers for us. Jamie was the only gal who drank w us. After the drinks, we began to have all sorts of funny ideas w the T7. Haven't had so much fun @ a Great Eastern event for a long time already. The Pics speak for themselves.

Ben & Jerry's
We took a drive to Takashimaya. But decided against parking outside the Indian High Commision, so we went Ben & Jerry's @ Dempsey Road instead. The Waffle cost $10.45. I think the $3 Wan Ton Noodles feels like a steal now. Ben & Jerry's is also not a conducive place for conversation. It's noisy. Oh yeah. I saw the bed and Volkswagen that Edwin mentioned.

Thai Disco
Thai Disco came next. Wanted to park along Beach Road opposite Golden Mile. But Ling insisted on parking insisde the basement car park. We went so early that we were the 3rd table there.
New Membership Card
Went down St James Powerstation w Ling to get my new membership card. There were some delays coz they couldn't find my new card. Luckily the wait was only 10 minutes. Went into Dragonfly and came out immediately after using the toilet.
T41 configuration
Configured my laptop so that all the photo resize scripts could work. Somehow Irfan View is damn fast after the re-install.

Went Kent Ridge Hill to recce. There's a free parking car park over there. The old IMCB is off limits to free parkers now.

Sharp Nose
Ling smelt the alcohol in my breath when I got back even after I brushed teeth and bathed. What a sharp nose.
Rain @ Ubi
Left office early so that I could cycle to Ubi and collect the Kelisa. After paying the $72.01, I called Wilson to see if he's at Ubi so that I could hang out and check out his cars. But he wasn't. So I decided to head eastwards going to Tampines with my bike. It was followed shortly by a u-turn upon visual confirmation of lightning and thunder. The drizzle started when I was back @ Ubi and it developed into a downpour once I sought refuge @ a bus stop.
CS1101 Tuition
Someone called Simy saw my ad and messaged me about CS1101 tuition. We negotiated the rate to $35/hour. I asked for $40 initially. He/she stays @ Pasir Ris, so it'll have to take place in school. By the end of today, I'll know whether I'll have my first paying student. Tried going to the CS1101 website on the SoC server. But all the materials have been moved to those password protected pages inside ivle.nus.edu.sg. Don't think the syllabus would have changed much.

Last Episode
Watched the last episode of the 9 pm show. In recent times, the last episodes of TCS shows have been quite sudden. As late as the 40 minutes before the ending, everyone still thought that Lin Xiangping was the good gal. (Too used to saying good guy, maybe too many shows have used guys as the bad guy) Suddenly, Terence Cao and Rui En received some voice recording of a victim then they knew the truth. Lin Xiangping died suddenly after killing herself when being cornered.
Hungry Chern
Felt very hungry while driving home. The rain and the fogged up windscreen didn¡¯t help much. My hands actually shook. After all, I only ate a few pieces of Chicken Chop nuggets and 2 slices of steamed bread for lunch.
Steamed Bread
Ate Steamed Bread for the first time after Soo Yi introduced it to me. It¡¯s easier to chew and swallow. Definitely better for the busy executive. But taste-wise, I still prefer dry bread.
T41 dead
T41 died again with a blue screen. Helpdesk pronounced it dead. Time of death. 3:30 pm. Using a temporary laptop now. It¡¯s a X30 model that's small and hard to use.
Kelisa's 1st servicing
Called Perodua to arrange for servicing tomorrow. By tomorrow, I'll know exactly how long it takes to cycle from Ubi to Office.
Naughty T41
My T41 refused to start this morning. Helpdesk helped to replace the corrupted NTLDR file.
Ling's Chicken Chop
Ling cooked Chicken Chop yesterday. I felt that it was not bad. But Ling said it could be better with Oyster Sauce. The took the leftovers to office for lunch today.

Last minute visit
Yen Peng called @ the last minute and asked if we wanted to go Jian Hui's house. It's Baby Nicole's birthday yesterday. So Ling & I left hurriedly for Punggol. By the time we reached Punggol, it's time to put petrol as the needle is already below the 'E' mark. Baby Nicole was asleep so we didn't get to see her at all. San, Kok Hiong & I just sat there watching the repeat telecast of England's rugby match w France. Didn't have much to say to San & Kok Hiong anyway. No booze. No conversation. I think this is the first time the 6 of us are together @ the same place @ the same time. So I took a photo for the sake of memories.

Tanglin Halt area has been transformed ever since Sheng Shiong opened a branch there. You can see the crowds everywhere. But surprisingly, not much cars. Most of them came by MRT. Ling says this place can be renamed as Tanglin Halt Central.
Someone going Shanghai
Woke up early to send Wilson to the airport. He'll be going to Shanghai for at least a year. With the 3 bags, he looks as if he is moving house. So for next year, Shanghai will be one of my holiday destination.

Pulau Semakau
Saw a brochure offering a tour to Pulau Semakau @ Wilson's block. All along I've been curious what this place looks like. Thinking of going there to take some pictures. Any takers?
Breakfast this morning
Mummy fried some Curry Puff this morning. They taste not bad except for the fact that it's not spicy enough. Also took some of Mummy's Fried Kway Teow from last night. But unfortunately, there are prawns inside. So I had to nit pick.

Marina South - Changed
Took a drive to Bedok for Bak Chor Mee before detouring to Marina South. It looks totally different now. The building that Canto used to occupy is completely desserted now. Most of the humans are @ the Superbowl side eating steamboat. There's also an arcade there. The place certainly have seen better days. Superpool is gone too.

Ubi Circuit
Ubi Driving Centre
Comfort Driving Centre
Fetched Ling here for the first time. It's Hari Raya. So the centre is empty except for a handful of students with private instructors. Ling was right. The place gives you a Kampong Feel. BBDC feels very corporate. I like the short building and the plants. But a visit to the toilet will make you 10c poorer though there was no one manning the counter today. I was able to take photos of the circuit without being stopped too.
Uneven Bus
Saw this bus along PIE. Stayed real clear of it.
Cutie & Fan
Saw Cutie online while Mapling. She says Fan is still busy. When I asked if it is about work. She can only say sort of and that Fan wants to take a long break. I think the picture that Cutie is trying to paint is just a mirage of the tip of a big, fat and complicated iceberg. Whatever it is I just hope everything's okay.
Wedding song
Elaine SMSed me for the song title of 'Pink Martini - Sympathique' during my wedding march. She wanted to recommend it to her friend for her wedding. I told her the title and warned her about the lyrics as it is about a broken hearted woman who has given up on life.
Weekend Cefiro
Saw one parked @ Tiong Bahru. Saw another Weekend MPV. I think for them, they may as well just pay the extra $17k for a normal car plate. After all, their cars already cost so much.
What is Hari Raya to you?
Today is Hari Raya. To me it's another Saturday. To a weekend car driver like me. It's time to drive that red plate out. So I saw a lot of weekend cars on the road. To ADRC, it is just a Saturday. To Great Eastern, it's an extra day for the staff.

Solitary solace
Spent some time @ Liang Court while waiting for 3 pm to come. I walked into Kinokuniya. Can't use a word to describe but it was pretty therapeutic to be in a quiet place with soothing music, books and no one disturbing you.
New jogging route
Switched directions when I jogged clockwise @ Hong Lim Park. Took a detour to take a second look @ the Kelisa to make sure it's alright there.

Was trying to arranging some sort of KTV/Vegetarian Dinner w Aihua, Esther, Jenny & Song Jing. After all, we all sit in the same section @ 9th floor. But Jenny is away @ a temple in Taiwan and won't be back until 22 Oct.
Expensive Mee Siam
Andy bought a $3.20 packet of Mee Siam for him and Stephen. The extra 20c was for the packaging. That Mee Siam can be exchanged for 3 packets of my Curry Mee. I didn't see anything special about the Mee Siam except that there were 2 extra prawns.
Not very green today
Was queueing up for Curry Mee @ Hong Lim and planning to eat there when I was intercepted by Xinhui & co. Ended up buying 6 packets of noodles. So for today, I'm not very 'green'. Used the disposable container. When I went back to my desk for my cup. Andy made tea with a styrofoam cup for me.

The Night
Stayed downstairs @ w Granny when I got home. Haven't been spending much time @ home for the past 2 days. Brought my laptop home to work downstairs. But I was glad I didn't have to take it out. Instead, Mummy joined us downstairs and I had a good talk w her about her days in Bangkok. We were watching this Channel 8 show featuring Bangkok. We also talked about Mummy's Kashmir trip. Have some reservations about it coz of the stories that I heard from people who have gone there. Not ordinary people but army regulars. I remember Tay Kah Keng telling me about those random dead bodies he saw on the streets. But Mummy said that if it's a tour group from Singapore, it'll not be that tough. Mei showed me her portfolio. For those in my generation, it's called Report Book. Her results are much better than mine. She also bought heels for next year. Don't remember anyone wearing heels to Uni. Even to work, a lot of my friends prefer to wear flats.

Dragonfly's 1st anniversary
Went down to Dragonfly's 1st anniversary party. Free flow booze and free flow food. But my date is Ling. So the free flow booze part was wasted on her. Nevertheless, it is a BIG improvement from a similar event @ Powerhouse earlier this year. It was even better @ Club Mono. As soon as my glass was empty, a waiter will ask if I would like some more drinks. All in all I drank 2 glasses of White Wine, 1 Glass of Red Wine & 3 glasses of Vodka Orange. We went home @ 10+ pm @ Ling's request. Was not that willing to go back initially but on hindsight, it was a good move as we left when we were enjoying ourselves. Went to renew my membership for another year (it's free). But the card printer was down. So I had to come back another day just to collect the card. They could have just snail mailed me the card.
Horrible lunch
Went to the Curry Mee Stall and order… Laksa. It turned out to be a bad decision. Wasted my stomach and $2.50 for nothing.
'You're late!'
Saw Jimmy just arrive @ Fitness First @ 8:20 am just as I was about to leave. I had the pleasure of telling Jimmy that 'you're late'. It still felt good though 8:15 is still early by any standards. Also told him about my weekend car. It's a tacit way of letting him know that he has no chance of seeing me in the gym after 9 am any more.

Nice food
Went Crystal Jade for some food later. Maybe it's some sort of reward for getting an earlier test date. But we just felt like pampering ourselves tonight. Even then, it's just 麻婆豆腐, 姜葱牛肉 and 2 bowls of porridge.
Ling's Driving test
Ling is going for her driving test today. I'll leave everything in God's hands. By noon, we'll know whether we can celebrate @ St James tomorrow. Not that I fancy St James, it's still an old folks home to me, but Dragonfly is giving free entrance + free booze (possibly) for members during the anniversary tomorrow. So free booze in an old folks' home. I don't mind.

Rugby World Cup
Knew through Wee Meng that New Zealand & Australia are already out when we came over to watch South Africa vs Fiji. Didn't really follow the World Cup. But I knew that Argentina postponed an important soccer game so that the fans can watch their quarter-final against Scotland.
Cycling @ West Coast
Packed the foldable bike into the Kelisa and went West Coast Park to cycle w Ling after dinner. We cycled from one end to the other end. The part of the park near the Wholesale Centre is completely desserted. Ling & I were the only humans there. It was a good cycle and we had a good talk about Ling's career.
Efficient Kelisa
My Kelisa did 504 km on a full tank. And a Kelisa full tank @ slightly more than 32ℓ costs only $54 worth of petrol.
Suhyi's Tortoise on our TV

Me & 3 girls in a room
Suhyi & Xiao Yun came to our house for Xiao Yun's tuition. Ling helped her out w her quadratic equation and roots. The 4 of us were squeezed into one tiny room. Suhyi was watching TV and Mapling while Ling & Xiao Yun were @ the makeshift table. I was working on ezhouse @ the PC. I just want to complete ezhouse and get it over and done with. It's taking a lot of my time.
My Milleage
My Milleage reads 450 km. There's a quarter tank of petrol left. I'm keen to see how far will the Kelisa go on a full tank.
Checking out BBDC Circuit
Brought Ling to BBDC to recce the circuit. But we were stopped by one of the instructors there. Whole place looks almost empty. As if the entire staff is going for DnD. If the circuit was teeming with cars, Ling & I would be able to sneak in unnoticed.
Studying for driving test
First thing that Ling did was to STUDY for her driving test. I refused to answer those theory questions for her. I'll just drag her to the circuit this afternoon and walk the ground.

The night
It turned out not bad. Wifey came along. Picked her up from Fullerton Hotel bus stop. Paulaner was crowded so we headed straight to Charlie's corner @ Changi Village. Edwin sat @ the back and complained about the 'gimpy little car'. He almost couldn't fit into the back seat. By the time we reached Changi Village, it was 8:55 pm. Tried the Asahi Black, Bear Beer and some horrible French Beer that Edwin chose. Edwin's 2nd beer sucked. It was from Sweden and a check around the joint revealed that only females ordered it. As exected, Jamie Koh couldn't join us. But not because it was too far. Rather it was because she doesn't know that way and she doesn't even know where Changi Coast Road is. Told Edwin that it was good conversation. He said that when you have alcohol all conversations are good. I feel that there were instances of alcohol + lousy conversation too. Stopped by @ Joo Chiat and Geylang Lorong 8 on the way back. Fetched Jamie home even though she stays @ Jurong West. It's a standard SOP for me as far as I'm concerned. In Malaysia, people would gladly fetch you to another town but for Singaporeans, it's like asking them to cut a piece of their flesh. Dropped Edwin home next and we brought the curtain down for the day.
My mood today
It's the Friday mood. Not in a mood to do anything. Not even blogging. There's so many things to write about and so little things to write about. Seating @ Debra's seat, there's so many people that I know and so many distractions. Just looking @ the Ezhouse's requirements for the 'Add New Property' is enough to make me want to procastinate it to tomorrow or even next week.
T-Shirt Day
Wore the Service Excellence T-Shirt to work. Everyone in the company had to do it. I think it's the ugliest GE T-Shirt that I ever wore. The grey make us look dull and dirty.

Chicken Rice
Decided to eat chicken rice today. Bought for Xinhui, Irene, Valerie & Stephen too. Tang Seng sent his SMS too late. So no Chicken Rice for him. Learnt what is 鸡尾. Coz the girls wanted it. All along thought that it was the chicken tail.

New Bicycle Lock
Bought my bicycle lock for $13 today. The price tag said $15. Auntie gave me a $2 automatic discount. It comes with a holder that allows it to hang from under the seat. I'lll need a spanner and allen key to fix it on though.
Hong Lim Curry Mee
Ate the curry mee that Xinhui ordered last month for the first time today. The hawker charged me only $1 coz I didn't want the chicken and the potato. It was much better than the 'famous' curry mee @ ground floor. It was also much cheaper. The ground floor curry mee stall dared to charge $4 per bowl and still had a queue.
MiB Demo
Went for the MiB demo. Was quite impressed by this vendor as they could provide a one-stop total solution. They had the data, the hardware and a web system. Only bad point is that GE will lose their branding and I'll have one less system in my portfolio. Dr Leow joined us for this presentation. She's supposedly the new head of Group Insurance. I'm not sure if I'm uneasy or impressed that she and the vendor did not do anything to hide the fact that they know each other quite well. I'm quite certain Dr Leow will go for this solution barring any unforseen circumstances.

GE Bowling
Went Safra Mount Faber for the GE Bowling event. Was bowling quite well until the effects of alcohol set in. My score dropped from 131 to 85.
Morning trip
Went Farrer Court for breakfast and ate our WHITE Carrot Cake. Fetched Ling to ADRC coz from tomorrow onwards, I'll be driving a weekend car and there'll be a very slim chance I'll fetch Ling there unless she's willing to wake up @ 6 am.
