Kiat & Yaren just woke up. Necla woke up quite early and she's already out. We went to a Turkish Bar for teachers last night before going to Sonner's home for more drinks. He's a researcher on animals. He showed us a video of him performing an operation on his cat. There was another video on his operation on a horse. I jetlagged and slept a short while later while the rest continued chatting. Kiat woke me up and we went home @ 2+.

Yaren's House - 1630 hrs
Just took a short nap. Weather in Istanbul is heaven. I could have a drink @ the seaside w Kiat in the mid-day sun and still not have a drop of perspiration. In fact it got too cold and we had to leave. Yaren has a few cats and I'll be spending the night w them in the living room. We went by public transport from the airport to Yaren's house and we experienced first-hand the Istanbul rush-hour. We went by train and tram to the western bank of the Bosphorus. We then took a ferry across before taking a mini-bus to Yaren's place. Istanbul's beauty can be seen clearly from the Bosphorus. The buildings on hills enable you to view almost the entire city.
Ataturk International Airport - 0645 hrs
Just touched down. The flight here was good. There was an empty seat beside me further left were 2 girls from Ukraine. Ordererd a Rakı - Turkish alcohol on board and they immediately recognised it. Didn't do much on the plane. Was either sleeping or played Patapon. Immigration was smooth too. No cards to fill. The officer simply slid my passport across some reader and stamped it real hard. By the way, Kiat is late! Am still waiting for him.

I drank Orange Juice & Rakı
Rakı is a Turkish alcoholic drink. 45%. Notice that the 'ı' is not 'i'. It doesn't have a dot on top. This is a unique Turkish letter w the 'uh' sound. So it's pronounced Rakuh.

Yeo, Alex, Lawrence, Ling & I wanted to go somewhere to celebrate my promotion after badminton. Went to Brewerkz initially. But the high prices put us off. $30 for main course. No air-cond. $50 for 3 glasses of beer. Puh-leez. Naturally, we went to Crystal Jade. It was quite empty (It's the drizzle) and the service was good. When I whipped out my 'Limit' Vodka, the waiteress even asked what kind of glass do I prefer for it. As usual, we ordered my favourites. But there was Gu Lou Yok and Roasted Duck. Was still quite hungry and proceeded to work on Ling's porridge until she told me that she's still eating. It was quite embarassing and my friends made a meal out of it.
Home - 0959 hrs
It was a full attendance @ badminton last night. Alex made it for badminton, so did Lawrence & Yeo. From the family side there was also full attendance. I find that it is harder and harder to cajole myself to give my all in badminton games. I only give my best when I'm:
. Fighting for pride
. Playing an opponent for the first time
. Playing singles
With the current 21-point system, you'll know whether you stand a chance halfway through the match.

Home - 0955 hrs
As I was having dinner w Alex last night. He said sees people nowadays playing the Nintendo on the MRT. It's just a innocuous statement. It goes to show that once you travel in a car, you lose a portion of your contact w society. This is one intangible thing that travelling on public transport gives. You get to see different people and their hobbies everyday. I felt I saw more of Bangkok during the 2 40-minute bus rides between Don Mueang and Sawarnaphum than my previous trips to Bangkok where I simply shuttled between Mah Boon Krong, Chatuchak & Hotel. Taking the train doesn't give you the localised feel as taking the bus.

There was a power failure @ home last night @ around 12. But the sky was quite bright and it felt like evening. From where I can see, only Hua Guan Estate was affected. It was business as usual @ Bukit Timah Road. Some of the residents began walking on the street with the torchlights. It was so hot that I decided to bathe in the darkness. Mei came back and lighted enough candles to make a 11-year old boy happy on his birthday. Mysteriously, some Class 4 vehicle with flashing lights came. It stopped outside Stefan's Dad's house. Some guy opened the electrical box outside and a few moments later, the power came back.
Jogged @ Hong Lim Park this morning after a 2 day break. Jogging is one of my few activities where you feel shitty while doing it and feel good after doing it. Most of the time, it is the opposite. Nicholas was here w his wife too. It's his first trip here and he's trying out to see if it's feasible to come in the mornings.

I just encountered the slowest Travel Agent in history. I spent 1.5 hours @ Euro Asia Travels just to book a simple Tiger Airways flight to Melbourne and a 4-night hotel stay. I think I could type faster than Sinah with 1 hand. To top it all, my ticket and hotel voucher is still not ready after the 1.5-hour wait.

Treated Yew Mun to lunch @ Aglio Olio today. A phone call from the travel agent came with some bad news. The price of our flight to Melbourne has increased from Saturday. Even the Claremont Hotel is fully booked for the period. But at least Kingsgate is available and it's right beside Southern Cross Station. I think I sort of know Melbourne better than this travel agent. I feel like giving the business to someone else as she's not giving me value-added service.

It has been a relaxed weekend so far. Didn't want to do any work on purpose. The result was that I enjoyed my afternoon nap in between 2 great meals cooked by Ling. Had Carrot Cake for lunch. Shouldn't have ordered the $3 packet. It came with sotong (yucks!) and prawns (pui!). Did a Google Search on Butterfly Valley @ Turkey. It's a nice place, alright. It's a beach inaccesible by road from land. But don't think I want to fly from Istanbul to Fethiye just to see a beautiful beach. I rather eat Kirsir in Istanbul w the locals anytime. I feel so disconnected from the Istanbul trip. It's feels like it's so far away yet it is just 10 days away.

Udon Thani Airport - 1425 hrs
Waiting for my flight to Bangkok now. It's been a good trip. I would say that it's even better than the previous trip because of the lack of friends from Singapore around. I was forced to brush up my Thai and ended up mixing more w the Thai people as a result. The drive back to Udon Thani was also smooth. There was heavy traffic @ Nong Khai coz of the water road blocks but I still made it to the airport on time.

Alex's house - 0040 hrs
The drive to Alex's house was surprisingly smooth. Luckily I could recognise Nong Doen in the Thai language. I turned into the correct village. But couldn't see any hint that a Singaporean guy is around. So I turned around and went to the next entrance. By then Alex has already called me and I turned back. The weather this time round is more bear-able than the last trip. At least I wasn't perspiring right after a bath. For some reasons, I couldn't buy alcohol @ Udon Thani's Tesco because of some elections tomorrow. It seems like it's a total ban on alcohol. I did manage to get the Phillips Hi-Fi system though. Bought KFC from Udon Thani and started my journey to Nong Doen.
Don Mueang Airport - 1715 hrs
It took me 10 minutes to figure out read Tahng Ook Keun Kreung. This roughly translates to exit-board-plane. I see a lot of old Ang Moh Uncles w Thai female companions. i still don't feel that I'm in another country yet coz of the abundance of English speakers. I'll feel it once I touch down @ Udon Thani.
Don Mueang Airport - 1620 hrs
It took me 2.5 hrs to get from the plane @ Sawarnabhumi Airport to the Transit Lounge of Don Mueang. There should be enough time on Tuesday to do the reverse. I took Public Bus 554 and paid ฿34 to get here. There is NO free airport shuttle from Sawarnabhumi to Don Mueang. At first the bus driver didn't understand what I was saying coz I was pronouncing Don Mueng wrongly. Luckily someone helped me out. I missed the domestic terminal stop & got off @ the old international and proceeded to enter an empty building until a security guard pointed me to the free shuttle bus that would take me to the domestic terminal.
Plane - 1230 hrs
We are still 'attached' to Changi Airport. Still had time to go toilet.
T3 - 1110 hrs
T3 is like a ghost town. Not much people around. Was the only person @ Brewerkz. Air-conditioning is cold. For me to make this statement means that Ling will have to wear winter clothes. I'm probably the worst dressed in this building in my shorts, slippers and t-shirt.
Changi Airport Terminal 3 - 1052 hrs
It sucks! There's no free internet. Found some wireless access point that require us to pay. Am having a drink @ Brewerkz now. Prizes are higher than town as expected. But they've got power points. So it mitigates the factor. Come to think of it, this is the very first time in my life that I'm flying alone and I'm living it up. There's nothing to crow about anyway coz I'm already 31 years old.

Shit! I've forgotten to bring Heng Kui's PSP to office. That means no Patapon for me. Was experimenting with 'breaking Fevers' while fighting Shooshookle. Ended up getting fried and crushed many times. In the end, the best way is just to Retreat and Guard if the timing is off.

Office - 1615 hrs - The Thai language
Tried to teach myself a bit of written Thai. Almost the whole day was spent on just figuring out what the few words on the Tesco Brochure mean. To compound matters, the font on the brochure and Microsoft's Angsana font are vastly different. The small circles in the Angsana fonts have been replaced by dashes on the brochure. I also noticed that there are quite a bit of borrowed English words in the Thai Language. TV is Tee-Wee. DVD is Dee-Wee-Dee.
Office - 0959 hrs
Ling did the java lab that I set last night. It was not too bad considering she's not even a programmer. But frankly, it's a pain reading the codes in Arial 12 font.

Xinhui played Patapon during lunch. She got mauled by Gorl from the last stage. But she managed to kill the Flower from the 2nd last stage. For a relatively new player, she gets 'Fever' quite often. Anyway, it's not too difficult to deal with the flower. Just keep attacking it and maintain fever and it'll die.
Office - 1707 hrs - T3
Picked up a magazine on Changi Airport near the IT Helpdesk. God knows what it's doing down there. But I found myself reading it. It would be a good time to visit T3 on Friday since Mummy would be sending Wati to the airport for an earlier flight. A drink or 2 @ Brewerkz will 'werk' for me.
Patapon Last Boss
The reason I'm so tired is because I played Patapon until 2:30 am last night. I did not just play. I completed the whole damn game. Spent an hour figuring out how to kill Gorl, the last boss. At the end of the game, Earthend is just a beautiful sunrise. But as a further twist, the game doesn't end. You get to play all the bosses again just like a normal arcade game. Each time you kill a boss, it gets more powerful. I would say the hardest mission is the Ghoul Gate mission 2nd hardest is the General Gong mission followed by the windmill mission.

Patapon @ lunch
Brought the Patapon game to lunch. I killed the Crab King while the rest of the lunch group ate. Irene told me that her house-mates have been playing the game too. I let a few of them try it. Patapon is popular because of the shallow learning curve. People of different skill level can play the same game. Just that the higher skilled person will plunder more stuff per mission. Xinhui & Stephen managed to complete Mission 1 on their first try. Irene didn't manage. More because she had Tatepons and they chased away a lot of the animals.
Big Mistake
I made a big mistake. I've mistaken Jaslin's wedding for 29 May instead of 29 Mar. It's so pai se. I only found out that I was wrong when I asked her on Facebook if she's ready for her wedding. She replied that her wedding is already over.
Office - 1036 hrs - Patapon
I've been playing more and more Patapon these days. I've officially taken over the game that Ling started after Ling created a new game of her own. I've reached the part of the game where it is not about whether you can maintain Fever stage. It is assumed that you are SUPPOSED to maintain Fever stage as a normal requirement. The success of the game depends on whether you Attack, Retreat, Defend or Charge Up.
Office - 1027 hrs - Suicides by MRT
Gertrude was late and told me that there's another 'suicide-by-MRT' incident this morning. It's really a 轟轟烈烈 way to go. With news coverage and everyone knowing what happened to you. I would say this bunch of people are a brave lot. It takes real balls just to stand real close to the trains when they are @ full speed. To actually jump into the path of an oncoming train requires something of a higher level.

It's been a shortened and delayed Qing Ming trip yesterday afternoon. By the time we left Tanglin Halt for Choa Chu Kang Cemetary, it was already 6 pm. We visited 2 graves and wrapped everything up by 7:30 pm. We then made our way to Lai Wah for Ling's Mum's birthday dinner. It's their first visit there and the food didn't disappoint. Fetched Mei from Kallang. So we now have 6 people in the car. I was quite comfortable. Didn't know about the rest though. Dropped Ling's family @ Sheng Shiong before going to Jack's house for Mei to pass her a cake. We then went back Sheng Shiong to pick Ling's family up. Moved bags of fruits into the car and we went to Ayer Rajah canteen. It's one of the few times that Ling's whole family is at the canteen together. Mei was there too. We then dropped Ling's family home before going home. Mei was thinking of whether to go Arena. In the end, she decided that it was too tired. I was also tired and slept way before Ling, who was Pataponning until 12:30 am.

Tanglin Halt - 1800 hrs
We are still in Tanglin Halt. Left the canteen only @ 5:30 pm. Waitied an hour @ the canteen. But luckily there was Patapon to keep me company. Ling drove alone for the first time. For a grand distance of 300 metres. From Fusionpolis to the canteen.

I promised myself that if I can clear all my work, I'll resume my jogging. I did that just now. 10 rounds around Hua Guan Cresent. Fixed 2 more ezhouse bugs after Junbin called. I hope they are the last. Played MapleStory for half-an-hour. The longest period that I've played for this year. Also played Patapon. It has replaced MapleStory as the favourite hobby of Ling & I. It's a humid Saturday. Not a good day to go Qing Ming w Ling's Parents. But if I don’t' go today, there'll be no other slots as I'll be in Nong Doen next week.

Encountered this level where you have to make spells to change wind directions. I think at this level, having continuous Fever is already a given. We now have to think of what moves to make and what enemies to destroy first. For this mission, it took me a couple of failed missions to realise that I have to take out the windmill as the first priority. If not there'll be an unlimited number of Zigotons generated.
Home - 1520 hrs - Last Night
There was full attendance @ badminton. I think by now, everyone is already around the same standard. With the exception of David, who is better than all of us. Picked Ling + her wet shoes up from Jurong East before heading to the coffeeshop near my house for dinner only to find it closed. We then went to the coffeeshop @ Old Holland Road for dinner.

Mummy & I just visited Daddy, 湉燕, 阿公 and 阿嫲 in the morning. Choa Chu Kang was okay. Mandai was the most congested. Had to circle 2 rounds before I could get a lot. Church of the Holy Spirit was totally deserted. We stopped by @ Welon to pass come photos to 四舅 and also checked out Ling's 大伯's stall @ Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. Next stop was town where I dropped Mummy @ DBS before making a trip to office to take my new pass from Kamariah. Returned the T Pass to Sock Lan before going for a swim @ Fitness First. Went Tanglin CC to check out the food (6/10 Sichuan food). Last stop was Giant supermarket where Mummy bought a microwave oven for 七姨.

Am eating Claypot Laksa now w Yew Mun. The signboard claims that they are the original hawkers from Depot Road. But it pales in comparison to the one from Alexandra Village by a mile. The gravy is flat and $6.90 for this half-standard bowl is simply a waste of money. There are also different incarnation of claypot laksa. We have the prawn flavour and the chicken flavour. There's even claypot rice. It's good to come here once and only once.
