New Benches
Our badminton court has new benches now. The workmen are still putting the finishing touches on the last bench. We don't need to worry 'bout splinters anymore. I know exactly why I'm writing this. But it's something special @ badminton and nothing special has happened @ badminton for a long time.
Talking to myself
It's 5:30 pm and I'm can go off. But I got no where to go off to. I've promised myself to be alcohol free until Chinese New Year. A bath @ Fitness First sounds like a good idea. Indeed. So I shall go there.

Smith Street Chicken Rice
Song Jing gave me an excuse to eat Smith Street chicken rice when he asked me to Tar Pau for him. Purposely went early before 12. But it's still as crowded. That's it. Looks like the Chinese New Year crowd is starting to come. I'll not step into this hell hole for the next month.

Another Heavy Drinker
My Kelisa has been drinking heavily these past few weeks. I'm not sure if it's because Ling is driving it the normal way. For the past 2 times, it didn't manage to reach 500 km per tank. For this round, I'm going to force it to 500 km. That includes turning off the engine @ traffic junctions, not using the air-con and generally letting the car roll whenever possible.

Using the Kelisa tomorrow
I've decided to pay the $20 tomorrow and run all my errands.
Pool @ Labyrinth
Went down Labyrinth to play pool w Alex. It's been ages since I last played. Skills all got rusty. (My birthday party not counted.) But can still lose to Alex by only a ball. But suddenly, my form came and I kicked their arses briefly. We had supper @ the prata shop near Labyrinth. Asked for extra chilli.
2 highlights
I found a power point @ Fitness First. It has been right under my nose all these while and I didn't even notice it until I saw someone plug his iBook to the point @ the members' corner. This is the highlight of the morning. The other was waiting with a bunch of old men for the distribution of 'Today' to start @ 7:15 am. What's with them? It's as if there's going to be an early bird draw or what.

Black Pepper Chicken
Fetched Mei to the Awfully Chocolate outlet @ Sembawang Hills for her work. Ling drove to Bukit Timah Market where she bought Belachan before we went back home. Ling cooked Black Pepper Chicken. None of them liked it except me. Not even Ling. She also cooked Fried Prawns.

Dinner w Ling's parents
Fetched Ling's parents from the canteen and brought them to Sheng Shiong Food Court for dinner. Ling's Dad loves the Yong Tau Foo there. I forced myself not to eat anything as I want to reserve space for Maggi Goreng. I shared a bottle of Tiger Beer w Ling's Dad. Ling stopped me from buying a 2nd bottle. We then went Sheng Shiong to shop for tit bits and Chinese New Year deco. We walked to Tanglin Halt market for more deco. Some guys walked up to Ling and said that they were her students @ Fuhua. Ling even remembered one of the as Hongzhan. Fuhua. It's been 6 long years. That 6 months of hell for both us. But Hongzhan was one of her better-behaved students.
Looking forward to Taxi Excursion
Completed my online Taxi Course & evaluation within 2 hours. Looking forward to my Taxi Excursion on 24 Feb. Hopefully by Mar, I'll get my Vocational License.
满姑 is here
满姑 arrived from Bukit Mertajam this morning. She took a cab here from Woodlands though Mummy offered to pick her up. For this trip, she'll be staying much longer as she has finally left the sweat-shop @ Alma officially. She liked the 豆腐 that Ling prepared.

After Majestic Bar
We went for Sake ... @ a Sake bar of course. Winnie was quite intrigued by my dislike for animal-like food. Quite a sociable lady, she could talk to Ling for an hour on their first meeting. Our next place was Tantric bar. It's this gay pub just down the street along Neil Road. It's my first time in a gay bar and I held Ling's hand tightly. The guys inside were very gentle, well-dressed and had nice bodies. They all walked with a sashay. The 4 of us had a table and shared 2 jugs of Bourbon Coke (Double Shot). I would say that @ $30, it's worth it because of the high alcohol content. The toilet is quite a fearful place to visit. The urinal is exposed in the open and the ONLY cubicle of the place doesn't have a lock. We left the bar @ 11+ so that Edwin & Winnie could catch RAMBO IV. Yeah. It's a good movie to watch when high. You need not use much brain to watch it. Ling drove of course.
Majestic Bar - Not so flattering review
Went to the grand opening of Majestic Bar. Edwin had invites for 4, so he called Winnie, Ling & me along. Didn't like the place at all. It's too cramped and narrow. The air-con needs a little more power. Even though there was free-flow alcohol, Edwin & I were already talking about where to go next. The best place in the bar is outside. Edwin & I sat on this fake square-like grass patches and I told him that I'm not going to go in again. Still, the management had to engage noisy Indian drummers. The din was the last straw and we left the place @ 9+.
Tekong
Wee Meng's 1st day of NS is today. Mei woke up to send him to Tekong. It's a far cry from my first day on 6 Dec 1995. Daddy & Mummy could only drop me @ CMPB and they didn't even see me until more than a week later. It will be interesting to pay him a visit if time permits during the weekend.
Fund Transfer not reflected
Mei's DBS I-Bank Fund Transfer to her friend didn't get through. I think she kena the same thing as me when I did fund transfers @ odd hours. At that time, the CSO said that the system was undergoing maintenance.

My birthday present from Song Jing
Dinner @ Lai Wah
Went Mount Sinai to pick Ling up and I felt that Ling gave a good suggestion for dinner in Lai Wah. Ling drove all the way there. We ordered Shark's Fin, Herbal Chicken & 金钱豆腐. It's nice to come on a weekday as only 3 tables are occupied. Food was heaven. A totally different feeling from eating Western Food. Ling paid for this special dinner. One of the rare occasions.
My birthday
Today is my birthday. It feels like just any other day. Was pleasantly surprised when Song Jing wished me 'Happy Birthday'. He even gave me a present! Treated Stephen, Tang Seng, Andy, Xinhui, Valerie & Jamie to Chicken Rice, McNuggets & Beer. Beer during lunch is good. But when you think of getting back to work, you sort of hold back. Esther bought dessert for me.

Coffee Shop dinner
Laval, Edwin, Kiat, Yaren & Junbin (much later) came down to celebrate my birthday @ the coffeeshop near my house. For the first time, there was a critical mass of people which enabled me to order the fish head curry. It was very lemak and very heaven. The unique part is that there were plenty of vegetables to satisfy me since I don't eat the fish. Yaren brought an extra bottle of whiskey along. Laval insisted on paying for the whole thing even though I wanted to give everyone a treat. We proceeded on to the playground with our drinks. What we did next was really spontaeneous. We asked Edwin to teach us how to dance and ended up looking like hip hop teens @ the play ground. We were sipping whiskey like nobody's business in between moves. Bottomline is that we really enjoy ourselves. It's surreal to be getting drunk, having a workout, dancing all @ the same time.

Taxi Driver Orientation
It is really Uncle territory. I'm definitely the youngest down here. Nearly couldn't find the place as it's located in the 2nd floor of a vehicle inspection garage. 2 girls walked in. I thought they are also future taxi drivers. But they were here to do a survey and psycho us to join Comfort Cab. This an Uncle-only course, just like 99.99% of others.
黄金路's ending
Watched it last night. Louisa mentioned that it was like 无间道. I couldn't agree more. But I think the ending sucked. It was like ending 'Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows' w 'Harry killed himself coz Voldemort killed Ginny. Voldemort got killed by a robber' @ the climax of the story. The last episode was poorly edited and I suspect there were more scenes but some government scholar wanted to keep it @ 30 episodes.
Chris & Xinhui
Chris sent an email asking about Mummy after she read my Facebook status and ended up having a chat over email. Xinhui also asked about Mummy over Facebook. Told her that everything is now okay. These are the little things in life that makes it so liveable.
Sending Mummy for Scan - Before
Dropped Mummy off @ Cairnhill Place this morning for a scan. Hope everything turns out fine. I always hate it when loved ones go for such scans. It's like attending the court of life and waiting for a verdict.

Poignant episode
Tonight's 百家乐 had a poignant feel to it. The family in Bryan Wong's team is actually fulfilling the eldest's daughter's last wish. She passed away recently after signing up for the show. I think after Bryan told everyone in his team to work extra hard, his win was a foregone conclusion.

Baby photos
Went through my baby photos and realised how young everyone was when I was a toddler. Not only everyone was young. I was the only child from Daddy's side and everyone doted on me.
Car pooling
Sunday Times ran another article on car pooling. Similar to the one in 'My Paper'. Went to those few car pooling websites. But none of the car pool journey requests fitted into my schedule. The population density in Bukit Timah is not @ the critical-mass yet.

Driving Practice
Ling practiced her parallel parking @ the canteen. She managed to park successfully regularly though her speed is still slow. But it's just a matter of time before she can be independent @ the wheel.
Back to Tanglin Halt
Went down to Tanglin Halt for lunch/dinner. It's like a homecoming feeling for Ling & I. Been ages since we last ate here. We went back to our favourite Fried Oyster stall. Also ordered Fried Kway Teow. The guy from the Fried Kway Teow stall still recognised us and said that he hasn't seen us for a long time. We went to eat the Ice Kachang too. Somehow, today reminded me of the time when Ling & I were still bf/gf.

Can't believe I'm down @ Sentosa. But it's good for a change. Driving in. Taking a stroll along the beach. But I was puzzled by the entrance guy's surprise expression when he saw me. He took a good hard look @ me before asking where I was going. I just said 'Sentosa'. Should have said 'Sentosa, where else?'. 'Er. That'll be $4 dollars. $2 for the car & $2 for you.' Noticed that those w D/Os get to enter free. I wonder if I can come across find some D/Os lying around.

Edwin dropped by for drinks and we finished the Absolut Vanilla. Conversation moved on to 'obscure drinking/eating places in Singapore' and we talked about Rainforest pub. It's @ Green Fairways. Right smack in the middle of nowhere. Ling also came along. We had 2 jugs of beer @ $18 each. Enjoyed the cock-talking. Ling took the wheel and dropped Edwin on the way back.

We only have 2cm of Oyster Sauce for lunch. Couldn't find the new bottle of it. Poor poor us. When it was my turn to find. I found it within seconds. Verdict. Ling is blind.

Trip to Katong
Went Katong Mall to fetch Mei. Somehow just felt like doing that. On my strong persuasion, Ling came along. Mummy also came along. Katong is a place that I only go for a couple times a year. I have no friends staying there and none of my regular F&B outlets are there. Saw 'Awfully Chocolate' for the first time. It didn't look like a cake shop @ all. In fact, Mummy saw more t-shirts on sale than cakes. I guess the cakes are all hidden somewhere. Wanted to ask Kiat where his Mum's shop was. I wasn't sure whether it was @ Katong Mall or Katong Shopping Centre. But he couldn't be reached. He called back much later when I was asleep and confirmed that the shop is @ Katong Mall basement.

He extract IC Number can extract until only the 1st character. What kind of fucking DBA is he?
A bad day @ work
Not a very good day in office today. In summary 175+k of policyholder records were not migrated to the OID. Resulting in a chain of problems. CS Officers are having a hard time. I suspect that the whole process failed @ Eng Yeow's corner and yet he just pretended that he didn't know anything or have forgotten about it. This is a summary of a bad work day. What was good was that I could see everyone else working as a team to solve the problem. I didn't even have the mood to eat lunch. Fetched Song Jing back after work. Picked Yeo & Lawrence up before sending David back to his Mum's home. Today is badminton day. A good time to release all the frustrations.

Seagate Wire
Received a belated Xmas Present/early birthday present from Seagate today. A UPS guy came to my home and delivered the Y-Cable. I thought my request 3 weeks ago have been lost in the system, with no follow up. I was too busy and didn't bother since it was just a cable. It came in an elaborate box w styrofoam. Fit for transporting a Harddisk. Maybe the cost of sending the wire to me is higher than the wire itself. The wire is worth US$5 as indicated on the paper that came along.
Homecoming to 12th floor
Felt 亲切 when I spent my afternoon @ 12th floor. It's like stepping into your regular pub and finding all your friends there. Chatted to quite a few people like Ron, Pheck Yong & Amilyn.
Still dry
Just missed the rain by minutes. Downpour started right after I cycled back from ICA. Thank God for that!
Going ICA
Cycled to ICA and applied for renewal of Granny's Social Visit Pass. There wasn't much people around. A stark contrast to July where I had to wait 3 hours for my turn. The entire trip from office to office only took an hour. It was similar when I went back to collect Granny's passport. I didn't have to queue at all. In fact I took a queue number and the counter staff told me that I was supposed to approach them directly. There was a slight glitch in the eNets system. We encountered a machine power failure after I entered my pin. So I entered my pin twice. Granny extension lasts only 6 months. Similar to the previous time. Why they so ngiao? She's just an old lady and she's not going to terrorise the streets of Geylang.
Lane error
Went into the wrong lane @ Buona Vista while fetching Ling to Science Park @ 6+. Ended up making a detour through Dover. Was probably still in dream land then.

Cup Cakes
Koh Wee's wife made some Cup Cakes for us. But there was a limited supply. (10 for each floor only). Well the early bird gets the worm. So Song Jing & I both managed to get 1 each. Enjoyed the cup cakes. Coming from someone like me who doesn't have a sweet tooth, it's a big compliment.

It was 1 am. I kept thinking whether to ask where Mei was. After all, she's already turning 19 this year and nobody gave a shit where I was @ 1 am when I was 19. So is this the time to close 1 eye? After thinking a while, I still called her and messaged her when she didn't answer. She didn't reply too but I was glad that she was at least around when I woke up.

Drinks @ night
Kiat & Yaren came over for Vodka. Not a binging session. But just a sipping session. I didn't take my first sip until they are almost leaving. I realised that I enjoy my time more when I'm not whacking alcohol. Showed Yaren my wedding photos and taught her some Chinese words. Henin vs Sharapova was on the telly. Marvelled @ Kiat's new tatoo for a while. This will one of the last few times I see Kiat before he disappears again for months in Turkey.
Black Market BBQ
Kiat went down to sell his photos @ Barracks again. But this time, this event is more like a flea market than a photo exhibit. Drove down right @ the close. Kiat shared a stall w Shaun & Carol. Saw Shao Wei there too. Grace set up a stall selling old stationery. We made our way to a foodcourt @ Holland Village. Again, I forced myself not to buy anything since I've already taken dinner. Only shared an Ice Kachang w Ling. I find that I'm more sociable when I'm not eating. Bizarre but true. Ling drove Yaren & me home while Kiat went back in Shaun's 2-door Hyundai Getz.
Mei's new job
She took on another job with Awfully Chocolate. Effectively, together with her Shangri-la job, she now works 7 days (12 hours each) a week. This puts her monthly pay higher than Ling's. That means I'll only see her in the mornings on weekends. I think I have the stamina to do the same only if I'm supporting a family.

Trip to Suhyi's house
Went Suhyi's house so that Ling could borrow some notes for her tuition assignment. Ended watching some Japanese serial and staying until 12+. It's about some Japanese Ah Lians, a policeman, a cowboy, a Red Indian & his daughter. It was hilarious. The kind of serious humour where no one laughed except the audience. This cowboy is looking for someone called 'Imoko', who turned out to be himself. Over the search, he ran into this bunch of Japanese Ah Lians. One of them punches anyone who calls her 'Imoko'.
Bak Kut Teh w Ling's parents
Took them to Tanjong Pagar Complex for Bak Kut Teh only to be greeted by a sign stating that their operating hours are from 7 am to 3 pm. We then went to our second choice, Bak Kut Teh opposite Fu Lu Shou Complex. I did not order anything as I've eaten glutinuous rice. So I watched them eat. I'm so proud of myself for not succumbing to temptation and getting food & drinks for myself. We also bought a pair of sandals for Ling's Dad.
Number Zero
I'll work with the number 0 for the next few days. No particular reason. Just for fun.
For each day, I'll:
Maple at least 0.1% (> 0) - Very possible
Implement 1 ezhouse change (> 0) - Very possible too
Exercise > 0 times - Very possible
Spend $0 on food (A bit hard, hoping for free food from office)
Spend $0 on parking (Very possible)
Spend $0 on transport (Not possible, unless I cycle)
Eat 0 Egg (Possible if I eat out)
Eat 0 'Lemak' (Possible if I eat out)
Eat 0 Fried (Possible if I eat out)
Drink 0 Sugar (Very easy to do)

Jogging today
Went jogging while Ling cycled. We put air @ Caltex station before going on a jog around Binjai Park. A girl was jogging behind me and overtook me in no time. Obviously she's faster and Ling had a field day making a joke out of it. Ling noticed that she jogs every morning and from her body frame, it supports the case.
New maid
My new maid came last night. Her name is Wati and she speaks almost zero English. She's the same age as me but looks 10 years older. Time will tell if she's a good fit in the family. So far until now, Suleah has been doing most of the handover and communication. After Suleah leaves tomorrow, it will be the real test.

Lunch
Mummy & I had Bak Chor Mee @ Crawford Lane for lunch. There was a long queue snaking out of the coffeeshop. Shared table w 2 chatty Aunties. They look like a typical Auntie. But they could speak English relatively well. The Bak Chor Mee @ $4 per bowl is too ex.
Some boring errands
By a chain of events, Mummy came down and picked me up from Chinatown Point. 姑姑 wanted her bus tickets to be switched to the more luxurious one. Golden Mile has a Western Union outlet too. So we did the funds transfer for Suleah and changed Gugu's tickets. Mummy even brought down Granny's negatives so that I could redevelopment them for my ICA Trip next week.

Sumptuous dinner
AA Cafe was closed last night. So we went to Old Holland Road coffee shop for dinner. Yeo & Lawrence came for badminton. Alex could join us because he knocked off @ 6+ today, thanks to him being in his new department for the first day. Ling was hungry and joined us too. So it was like a mini-gathering. My friends could order food for me without having to ask me. I gleefully tucked into the 公保鸡丁, Steamed Egg, Sambal Kang Kong and 油条. It always feels good to eat when one is hungry. Lawrence is still recovering from a lung infection. So he didn't eat anything.
Sucked @ badminton
Sucked @ badminton last night. I hope the reason lies behind me skipping lunch and not a general drop in my fitness level. Most of the my drop shots went off as the rims of my racket have a new-found affinity with the shuttlecocks.
Shaky bridge
The bridge between Apollo Centre & Furama Hotel shook when one Auntie ran across. I feel so unsafe up here taking pictures. But this bridge seem to have survived many running Aunties. So I shouldn't be too worried. Havelock is so void of cars @ 6:45 pm. This is very uncharacteristic. The expected rush hour traffic simply didn't materialise. Even the rush hour traffic is busy somewhere else.
Loneliness
Felt down for no apparent reason in the afternoon. It could be the loneliness. Everyone around me is so busy. Some are busy looking busy. Some are genuinely busy. Even Xinhui is busy trying to debug something and she has no time & mood to help me with last week's photos. I'm officially busy with installing an Oracle Server. In actual fact, I'm just taking a nap and clicking and typing every 10 minutes or so. I miss the hectic and purpose-filled lifestyle 3 days ago. Out of loneliness and realising that my birthday is just 3 weeks away, I decided to call Val & Alex and book them for 18 Jan. Alex knew that I was booking him for my birthday before I spoke a single word.
Quiet afternoon
It's a relatively quiet afternoon. Installed OID & it's MR on the new SSO SIT server. Had some minor roadblocks w the /etc/system file. But there are very few things in IT that google cannot solve. Even ended up sleeping halfway throughout the installation.
Mysql - Character sets and pea-brained web-hosters
Didn't expect to be working so much on ezhouse. But I ended up spending close to 2 hours getting the Character Set. Those fools @ webhosting.com.sg migrated my 'latin1' data to a 'utf-8' database without doing any conversions. Passwords got corrupted. I had to re-do everything myself and set the mysql_client default character set to 'utf-8' when accessing the new database. They didn't even tell me the IP of the new database server. I only found out after I did a 'ping' to ezhouse.com.sg.
FPMS - One big cauldron of people
Reached office @ 7 am to see almost 1/3 of my FPMS colleagues around. They are doing the FPMS Catch-up. A large number of colleagues from KL & Brunei are here too. My office is now one big cauldron of people. There is already a lack of network cables (Had to steal one from the meeting room for Yoon). Soon we'll run out of oxygen.
Foodie treats
Suleah cooked Chicken Curry for dinner last night and of course, I ate some of the remainder this morning with noodles. Feeling a bit bloated now. Would have gone for a run if not for the drizzle. To pile on the Calories, there was free MacDonald's breakfast in office. I ate a couple of Hash Browns. Will skip lunch again.

Sleeping very early
I was not sure what time I slept. But when Yeo called @ 11:45 pm to say that Lawrence & him would be @ badminton tomorrow, it felt like I have been sleeping for hours.
Buying stuff
Went w Mummy & Ling to Golden Mile to buy tickets for 姑姑 & her family. It's a pity that they'll only be here from 初二 to 初四. But having only 10 days between Penang, KL & Singapore, that's the best they could do. We stopped by @ Coronation Plaza on the way so that Mummy & Ling could shop. They have forgotten to take their shopping bags from the car again. So it's more plastic bags. If only they can cast the 'Acio' (Refer to Harry Potter) spell.
New maid
It's confirmed that Suleah will fly off on Sunday. I think she's the best Indonesian maid we ever had. Hopefully the new one is as good. But we can only hope. Mummy interviewed her and said that her English is slightly better than Anka's. Anka's English is quite horrible. Or non-existent. So slightly better than that is no consolation. Time to dig out my Bahasa Dictionary.
Raymond the trainer
Raymond conducted the PNS Training to the sysop guys and I was there to observe. I think that Raymond can be a good trainer. He's a natural talker and the sysops easily understood what he told the.
Lunch Time
Sent Ling's pig-leg shoes for repair. Finally went for hair-cut to trim that disgusting mop sitting on my head. Maybe it's the reason why I've been so sway the past few weeks. Kelisa accident. Stupid Wilson bungling up the deal. Stupid PNS Job failing. Stupid Xmas Party.
I like a normal day
Today is the start of my first 'normal' day in more than 2 weeks and I welcome that. I think I'm suffering from 'special' and 'abnormal' fatigue. Why is today normal? For a start, I'm driving the Kelisa. Mummy has her Honda. It's a school day. So we actually see some cars @ 6+ in the morning. I'm working and it's also a working day. You get the drift. The only thing special is that I'm wearing a t-shirt to work. We are all allowed to wear GE T-Shirts to work this week. Couldn't care less about it as I'm also sick of GE T-Shirts. I wore the Thai King's birthday T-Shirt.

Empty bottles from last night's Champagne Party in office
The dials
I like this the most!
Gear
Dashboard of the new Honda
Mei's clique's mini-party
Played Mahjong w Mei's clique. I remember them @ my wedding & they look much older now. I saw Tiger Beer, Red Wine & White Wine and I'm so proud of them. I think Jack is quite good @ Mahjong for her age. But she described the s as Balls. So she can be saying stuff like 'you are waiting for 2 balls now'.
Getting my hair dyed
Ling dyed my hair today. She has previously done it for her Mum before. So I've not much anxiety. Anyway if it turns out to be a disaster, I'll just shave my head.
New Honda
Drove the new Honda today. Felt like an important executive cruising along. Engine is quiet though Mummy said that it's noisier than the test drive car. No complaints about the car. It's still the run-in period. Didn't want to push it.
New Clothes for Granny
Took Granny out for lunch today. It's been a long time since we did that. Dropped Mummy & Suleah @ Toa Payoh Central so that Suleah can buy some stuff back to Indonesia. Granny, Ling & I went Lorong 8 for lunch. Lorong 8 was surprisingly wheelchair friendly. It helped that we got a lot just 2 lots away from the ram. I managed to push Granny to the hawker centre without fuss. Looking for a table wasn't a hassle as all the wheelchair-friendly tables weren't occupied. Look for chairs was. Had to buy Teh-O-Kosong from an Orange haired auntie before I could borrow her red stools and even then, I had to return those stools. Ling bought Bak Chang for Granny. I went for my Carrot Cake. Ling had 烧肉饭 and gave some of the meat to Granny. We did some shopping around the shops. Granny took a keen interest in a purple blouse. Despite Ling's psychoing (Ling prefers the yellow one), Granny still wants the purple one. So we paid the $22 for her. The shopkeeper said that she'll lose money if she gives a discount. This will be Granny's New Year clothes.
