Selegie Road - 1850 hrs
Took a walk around the area while waiting for Night & Day Bar to open @ 7 pm. Although it's in the CBD, the whole place feels so foreign and laid back. Education offices of dodgy sounding universities like University of Madras sit in the same building as Dynasty Night Club, Cold Storage and a slew of photocopying shops. There's even a Post Office here.
Office - 0745 hrs
It's a humid morning. If only there's a machine that removes all these H2Os from the air.

This terminal certainly beats Singapore's Budget Terminal as the most budget I've ever seen. There's only 4 vending machines and a cafe that is outside the building. A printed plastic card hangs over each check-in counter stating it's destination. In fact, this terminal feels more like a converted aircraft hanger to a building.
Swanston Street - 1215 hrs
Some girl just asked me for 50c. Told her that I could only spare 10c. She took it and saw my $2 coin. She asked for it but I told her I need it too. She doesn't look like a begger. She's well-dressed. She's polite. That's why I gave her the 10c. Maybe it's a genuine case I don't know.

Took a walk down Chapel Street last night. Apart from the occasional pub and restarant, most of the other shops are closed. I now know why there's a 'No Public Drinking' rule. Our Hotel Reception
This is where we took our breakfast this morning
Phillip Island - 1900 hrs
On the way back to Melbourne now. The tour today was good. The 8 of us included 3 Singaporeans, 1 British lady, 1 Swedish lady & 1 Indonesian guy (Andre). We visited a vineyard, Maru Wildlife Park, Woolamai Beach, the Noobies & Penguin Parade. The place where we watched the Penguins was very cold because of the strong winds from the South. Every sunset, penguins would come in from the sea and walk towards their burrows.
Monash Freeway - 1220 hrs
On the way to Philip Island now. James picked us up @ our hotel. He took us on a detour to the Botanical Gardens before dropping us @ Federation Square to get up onto Catherine's mini-bus. She's a student @ Melbourne University and she'll be our tour bus driver-cum-tour guide for today. There are only 8 of us in the whole group. So it would be a cosy tour.
Hotel Claremont - 1030 hrs
There is trouble with lights in our room and the toilets. The guy from the reception taught us how to lift up the switch @ the circuit breaker whenever the lights are not working.
Hotel Claremont - 1017 hrs
We slept the afternoon off in the hotel yesterday. In the evening, Ling and I took Tram No. 8 down to Lygon Street last night to look for the Ying Thai 2 restaurant that Junbin says serves good Thai Food. Looked up the Melbourne White Pages and saw that the place exists and it's @ 110 Lygon Street. We managed to find the place after walking from 540 Lygon Street to 110 Lygon Street. Travelling on the Trams during the rush hour gives you the same experience as in other city - lots of people in a small confined space. The cold weather made it more quite pleasant. Food @ Ying Thai 2 was good. Ate my Thai Lap, Green Curry & Tom Yam Soup. The waiter was a Thai who spoke perfect English. The meal was expensive from a Singapore context A$48.70. Took a walk to Chinatown from there. Bought a drink from an 'alcohol supermarket'.
Me : Thanx, but I don't need a bag.
Cashier : You'll need it.
Me : I'll just drink like this.
Cashier : It's illegal to drink in public. The fine is A$200 if you are caught.
Me : ...

Hotel Claremont - 1015 hrs
In Melbourne, it is illegal to drink in public. Alcohol is not sold @ 7-Eleven. Beer is also not THAT cheap. A can of Victorian Brew for A$2.50 is nothing to crow about.

This is how it looks like on the ground
Melbourne was so foggy that we couldn't see anything on the ground
Hotel Claremont - 1430 hrs
Managed to check in. There's no attached bathroom to our hotel rooms. All the guests on one floor had to share a single cubicle and 2 showers. That explains the S$128 per night (cheap) @ current Australian Dollar exchange rates. Room is decent. Though there were minor hiccups like the remote control for the lights and fan not working. This was swiftly dealt with by the middle-aged maintenance guy.
Hotel Claremont - 1120 hrs
It's 9 degrees. We took a walk around South Yarra, ate @ Subway and Ling is hibernating in the hotel lounge. She is now wearing 4 layers of clothes. It's very foggy today. This explains for the plunge in temperatures. Hopefully it'll be better when we visit the Penguins tomorrow. Everything in Melbourne is expensive. Our bus ride to town cost A$16 per pax. I bought a weekly public transport pass for $29 per pax. Internet costs A$8 per hour or A$20 for 24 hours. I still haven't put on my jacket yet.

Waiting for our flight to Melbourne @ Darwin Airport

Darwin Airport - 0140 hrs
Excellent. There's free wireless internet connection here. Not like the wireless@sg crab dished out by Changi Airport. Looks like I gotta sign up for my account soon. Before tonight, I always had this perception of Darwin Airport being a dark and lonely airport. The reality is completely the opposite. The departure lounge is full of people and the shops are all open.
Flight to Darwin - 2120 hrs
I'm seriously thinking of installing Sudoku on my E61 @ Darwin later. The flight is almost full. That means no legroom. There are crying babies on board and noisy teenagers behind me. Ling also couldn't sleep and she wrote her work review on my phone.
Flight to Darwin - 1915 hrs
We just bought a cup noodle for $4. This is more than twice the price of the same stuff in town. Ling and I are going to share it.
Budget Terminal - 1740 hrs
The positive thing about this place is there's a laptop corner. But I couldn't get the Wired Lan to work. So I'm using 3G.
Clementi Hawker Centre - 1030 hrs
Still waiting for Heng Kui's Wan Ton Mee. Ling just told me that it's a famous stall. One of her NUS friends told her that.
Clementi Hawker Centre - 1000 hrs
I'm reading about this article on today about insurers charging higher prices for fatter people. It's a good idea. This will REALLY make people think twice about that extra plate of Fried Kway Teow. It would be even better if airlines does the same thing. I'll eat nothing but porridge for a week if airlines give a discount for ideal BMIs.

Working in the backyard is quite fun though humidity sets in after a couple of hours. Was supposed to bring Uncle Poh Teong and family out w Mummy but they went Vivo City to meet relatives. Fetched Sixuan to NJC for a CIP camp in the afternoon. The gate was closed and there was no guard. But the gate was unlocked.
Tanglin Halt - 1032 hrs
Choosing a place for drinks after dinner was a no brainer. My home. Edwin suggested Paulaner Brauhaus. Nowadays, unless there's something that a place has that my home doesn't have, I'll not want to drink there. Edwin said that we'll drink more if we go to Paulaner. But I beg to differ. We finished no less than 7 cans of beer, half a bottle of Limit Vodka & about a quarter bottle of Grey Goose @ my home. The same amount would have cost us a couple of hundred dollars over there.
Tanglin Halt - 1031 hrs
Met up w Edwin, Yong Boon & Laval for dinner & drinks @ 故乡 last night. Edwin brought a couple along. Zedui & Elsa. They are from Indonesia. Ate very little coz most of the dishes that were ordered looked like animals. But it's good. At least my friends can eat something other than the usual 豆腐 & 公保鸡丁.
Tanglin Halt - 1030 hrs
Came here w Ling to take food from her parents' place. Took the opportunity to eat @ the hawker centre. This time I managed to find a lot in the car park next to the police post. Ling enjoyed her 唯一 Laksa while I went for my usual Carrot Cake. As usual, the peanut pacake and Fried Bee Hoon stalls ahd their long queues.
